For more information and further assistance, please call Customer Service at 1866.920.3784.

Dosage

Tekturna is available in the strength of 150 mg and 300 mg tablets.

Usage

Tekturna (Aliskiren) is a prescription medicine used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in people who are at least 6 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds (50 kg). The active ingredient in Tekturna is Aliskiren. Aliskiren belongs to a group of medicines called Renin inhibitors. Aliskiren is the first drug that targets an enzyme responsible for triggering a process that can contribute to high blood pressure. It decreases plasma renin activity and inhibits the conversion of angiotensinogen to angiotensin I. By this mechanism of action. Aliskiren reduces the effect of renin and the harmful process that narrows blood vessels and helps blood vessels relax and widen so blood pressure is lower. Lowering blood pressure prevents stroke, multiple organ failure, and sudden cardiac failure that may result.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Tekturna are nausea, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, vertigo, and body weakness.

Stop using Tekturna and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Light-headedness and fainting;
• Slow, weak, or irregular heartbeat;
• Swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs;
• Worsening of your blood pressure

Tekturna Precautions

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking Aliskiren, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or are using another antihypertensive medication. Tekturna is a tablet that should be used according to your prescription label. It is usually taken once a day. It would be best to know that Tekturna helps control high blood pressure but does not cure it. You should continue to take Aliskiren even if you feel well. In addition to taking medication, lifestyle changes will help control your blood pressure. These changes include eating a diet low in fat and salt, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising at least 30 minutes most days, not smoking, and using alcohol in moderation. Tekturna can cause serious harm to an unborn baby if used during pregnancy. It is important to prevent pregnancy while taking this medication. Your doctor may prescribe a reliable form of contraception for you during treatment with Tekturna. Before using potassium supplements or salt substitutes that contain potassium, consult your doctor or pharmacist, as it may worsen your blood pressure. Keep a blood pressure chart regularly, and do not miss your clinic appointment. Do not stop taking Aliskiren without talking to your doctor.

Before you start using Tekturna, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Diabetes mellitus;
• Hyperkalemia (high level of potassium in the blood);
• Kidney problems (or on dialysis);
• Liver problems;
• On low salt diet

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. If you are planning pregnancy, become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant, tell your doctor right away. Do not use it if you are pregnant. Aliskiren can cause injury or death to the unborn baby if you use the medicine during your second or third trimester. Tekturna passes into breast milk; hence, it is advisable not to breastfeed. If you are a nursing mother, inform your doctor about alternative feeding techniques. There may be a drug interaction between Tekturna and other drugs such as parsentan, ACE inhibitors such as benazepril/lisinopril, candesartan, losartan, and birth control pills containing drospirenone. Store in the original container at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Do not store it in the bathroom.
