The brand Xalacom is available in the strength of 50 mcg/ml/5 mg/ml 2.5ml vial only. The generic Latanoprost/Timolol is also available in the strength of 50 mcg/ml/5 mg/ml 2.5ml vial.

Usage

Xalacom (Latanoprost/Timolol) is a prescription medication used to reduce pressure in the eye resulting from conditions such as open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. These conditions occur when increased pressure within the eye affects the eyesight. The active ingredients in Xalacom are Latanoprost and Timolol. Latanoprost belongs to the class of medication called prostaglandin analogues. It works by increasing the natural outflow of fluid from the eye into the bloodstream. Timolol belongs to the class of drugs called beta-blockers. It works by slowing the formation of fluid in the eye. Xalacom is often prescribed when other medicines have not worked adequately.

Xalacom Side Effects

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Xalacom are eye irritation, headache, and temporary changes in eye colour.

Stop using Xalacom and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Nausea;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, swelling of the face, mouth, tongue, or throat;
• Skin rashes

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Latanoprost or Timolol, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to any ingredient in the drug or have any other allergies. Xalacom is an eyedrop. Instil one drop once daily in the affected eye. Do not use Xalacom more than once a day. Using this drug more than prescribed will reduce its effectiveness. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using Xalacom. Wait at least 15 minutes after using the drug before putting your contact lenses back in. You may experience temporary blurred vision after applying the drug. Do not drive or use machinery until you can safely do so. If you are using other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes after using Xalacom before using other eye drops.

Before you start using Xalacom, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Become pregnant or nursing a child;
• Have an overactive thyroid;
• Have breathing problems;
• Have coronary artery disease;
• Have dry eyes

Inform your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Xalacom should only be used in pregnancy when the benefits outweigh the risks. Xalacom may pass into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Latanoprost/Timolol and other drugs such as prostaglandins, beta-blockers, epinephrine, quinidine, and fluoxetine.
