Product Details
Xenical (Orlistat) is a prescription medication that is used to treat obesity. It can help considerably overweight people lose weight and keep it off. Orlistat is a gastrointestinal lipase inhibitor. This medication is used in combination with a reduced-calorie diet that contains no more than 30% of calories from fat and exercise to help overweight people with certain risk factors such as diabetes, hight blood pressure, and high cholesterol or triglycerides lose weight. Lipase is an enzyme that is needed to breakdown dietary fats into fatty acids that gets absorbed in the body. Orlistat works by blocking the action of lipase and therefore prevents dietary fat from being absorbed. Orlistat prevents the absorption of dietary fat by 30%.

The common side effects may include fever, chills, sore throat, cough, cold or flu symptoms, headache, back pain or mild skin rash, problems with teeth or gums. More serious side effects may include:
• Oily spotting in underwear, gas with discharge;
• Oily/fatty stools, changes to color of stools, loose stools, increase in bowel movements;
• Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rectal pain;
• Weakness, dark urine, itching, loss of appetite, jaundice

Do not take Xenical if you are allergic to Orlistat or if you have gallbladder problems, chronic malabsorption syndrome and if you are pregnant. Before you start taking this medication, inform your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. Do not use this medication if you are nursing a baby. Taking Xenical makes it harder for your body to absorb certain vitamins and these vitamins are important for a nursing baby. This medication should only be used by the person for whom it was prescribed. Do not share this medication with anyone else, especially if that person has a history of eating disorder.
