Usage

Tobradex (Tobramycin/Dexamethasone) is a prescription combination eye medication used to treat bacterial eye infections or inflammation of the eyes. Tobramycin belongs to the class of drugs called aminoglycoside antibiotics and it works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Dexamethasone belongs to the class of drugs called corticosteroids and it works by reducing swelling. Tobradex will treat and prevent bacterial infections only. This medication will not work against viral infections of the eyes.

Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

The common side effects of Tobradex may include eye discomfort, eye itching or swelling, eye redness, and temporary blurred vision.

Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Eye pain;
• New or worsening eye symptoms;
• Vision changes

Warnings and Interactions

Do not use Tobradex if you have a viral or fungal infection in the eye, such as herpes, vaccinia, or varicella. This medication is used to treat bacterial infections only. You should not use this medication if you are allergic to Tobramycin or Dexamethasone or to other aminoglycoside antibiotics or if you have any other allergies. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history especially if you have other eye problems such as glaucoma.

This medication may blur your vision temporarily. Do not drive, use machinery or do any activity that requires you to have a clear vision until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Tell your doctor about all the medications you use including prescription, OTC, herbal medications and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Tobradex and other medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
