Linzess and Linaclotide at CanadaPharmacyOnline.com

Linzess (linaclotide), known as Constella, manufactured by AbbVie (formerly Allergan), is available in many countries worldwide, including Canada and the United Kingdom. A generic version of Linzess is not available at this time.

Dosage:

Brand Linzess is available in 72 mcg, 145 mcg, and 290 mcg capsules. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose based on your needs and medical conditions. It is crucial to take Linzess exactly as prescribed. Do not change your dosage or stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

Usage:

Linzess (linaclotide) is a prescription medication for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) and chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) in adults. This medication also treats functional constipation (FC) in children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years, under strict medical supervision due to the risk of dehydration. However, Linzess carries a boxed warning due to the risk of severe dehydration in children younger than 2 years old and also has warnings regarding dehydration risk in those aged 2-6 years old. Linzess should only be used in children under strict medical supervision. (refer to the product monograph in Canada)

Mechanism of Action: Linzess (linaclotide) belongs to the class of medications called guanylate cyclase-C (GC-C) agonists. This medication activates the GC-C receptor, increasing chloride and bicarbonate secretion into the intestinal lumen. This increase in intestinal fluid softens the stool and accelerates intestinal transit, stimulating bowel movements.

Take Linzess orally exactly as your doctor prescribes, following the instructions in the product labeling information. Consult your doctor for personalized guidance and safe use.

The information below summarizes some, but not all, potential side effects, risks, and interactions. Before taking Linzess, it is essential to discuss all possible side effects, risks, and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist.

Side Effects

The information below is a partial list of side effects; individual reactions can vary. Before starting Linzess, it is crucial to discuss potential side effects and risks with your doctor or pharmacist.
• Abdominal pain
• Bloating (feeling of fullness or pressure in the abdomen)
• Diarrhea (which can be frequent or severe; if you experience severe or prolonged diarrhea or any signs of dehydration such as dizziness, light-headedness, or decreased urination, contact your doctor immediately.)
• Fatigue
• Flatulence (gas)
• Headache
• Vomiting

Serious or rare side effects- Stop taking Linzess and seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following:
• Severe allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, severe rash or hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat)
• Severe abdominal pain with bloody stools
• Severe diarrhea leading to dehydration (dizziness, light-headedness, fainting, electrolyte imbalances, decreased urination, increased thirst)

Contraindications: The following is not an exhaustive list of contraindications. It is crucial to discuss all your medical conditions, past and present, and all medications you are taking with your doctor or pharmacist before starting Linzess.

Linzess should not be used if:
• You are allergic to linaclotide or its ingredients;
• You have a blockage in your intestines
• It’s a child under two years old

Tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions, past and present, before starting Linzess. This is crucial because certain conditions can affect whether Linzess is right for you. These conditions may include, but are not limited to:
• Conditions that cause diarrhea or electrolyte imbalances;
• Gastrointestinal obstruction (linaclotide increases gastrointestinal motility, it could worsen an existing blockage)
• Risk of dehydration (people who are prone to dehydration should use Linzess with caution especially elderly patients)

Drug Interactions

Before taking Linzess, it is essential to discuss all potential risks and interactions with your doctor or pharmacist. For complete and up-to-date information, refer to the official Linzess website, https://www.linzesshcp.com/.

Provide your doctor with a complete list of all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Linzess may interact with a variety of medications, including, but not limited to, medications that affect bowel motility, such as certain antidiarrheals and anticholinergics, as well as diuretics that can increase the risk of dehydration.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

If you are or might be pregnant, talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of Linzess. Due to limited data on the transfer of linaclotide into breast milk, it is essential to discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor before taking it while breastfeeding. The decision to use Linzess during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be made in consultation with your doctor after carefully weighing the potential risks and benefits.

Frequently Asked Questions about Linzess at Canada Pharmacy Online:

Why is Linzess more affordable in Canada than in the United States?

Prescription drug prices, including Linzess, are generally lower in Canada than in the US due to a combination of factors, primarily government price regulations, differing market dynamics, and other economic considerations. In Canada, provincial and federal governments negotiate drug prices with pharmaceutical companies, which often results in lower costs compared to the U.S., where market forces play a more significant role. For more information, see the FAQs on Prescription Drug Importation from the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF): https://www.kff.org/health-costs/issue-brief/faqs-on-prescription-drug-importation/

Can the Linzess pill be split or crushed?

Do not crush or chew Linzess capsule or capsule contents. Swallow Linzess capsule whole. If you are unable to swallow the capsule whole, Linzess capsules can be opened and administered orally in either applesauce or with water or administered with water via a nasogastric or gastrostomy tube.

What is the difference between Linzess 145 mcg and 290 mcg?

The difference in dosage represents the amount of active ingredient(s) present in the drug.
