Usage

Capozide (Captopril/Hydrochlorothiazide) is a prescription medication used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Hypertension is a heart condition in which the blood pressure is above the normal level. Hypertension is usually asymptomatic, and its treatment is for a long time. The active ingredient in Capozide is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide. Captopril belongs to the group of medications called Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors and it works by relaxing the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic, and it works by making the kidney get rid of excess fluid in the body. Treating hypertension prevents multiple organ failure, stroke, and sudden cardiac death.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Capozide are nausea, vomiting, cough, chest pain, orthostatic hypotension, hyperkalemia, itching and tachycardia.

Stop using Capozide and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Serious headache;
• Severe palpitation;
• Severe chest pain;
• Severe dizziness or fainting attacks;
• Sleep disorder;
• Unusually fast or irregular heartbeat;
• Worsening of your blood pressure

Warnings and Interactions

Capozide is a combined tablet, and it should be taken orally with a cup of water. Use your medication according to your doctor’s prescription label. Do not use Capozide with other antihypertensives to prevent sudden drop in your blood pressure. You should take a tablet daily for as long as your doctor prescribes it. Drink enough water when taking Capozide. You may feel dizzy a few minutes after taking this medication. Get up slowly from a sitting position and do not drive or handle heavy machinery until you are certain you can do it. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Check your blood pressure regularly and inform your doctor if there is no improvement in your condition. Do not miss your clinic appointment because your doctor may want to test your blood and response to treatment. You must continue to take Capozide until your doctor tells you otherwise.

Before you start using Capozide, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Allergic to sulfa drugs;
• Diabetes mellitus;
• Eye problems such as glaucoma or cataract;
• Gout;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems including liver cirrhosis;
• Urinary problems such as benign prostate enlargement or prostate cancer

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Capozide can harm the unborn baby. Do not use Capozide tablets during the last three months of your pregnancy. Hydrochlorothiazide and captopril can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding your child. There may be a drug interaction between Capozide and other drugs such as aliskiren and sacubitril/valsartan.
