The generic Diclofenac Potassium tablet is available in Canada from a different manufacturer. Our customers may also purchase other Anti-Inflammatory medications such as Arthrotec and Colcrys. For more information and further assistance, please call Customer Service at 1866.920.3784

Dosage

Cataflam and its generic Diclofenac Potassium are available in the strength of 50 mg tablets only.

Usage

Cataflam (Diclofenac Potassium) is a prescription medication that relieves mild to moderate post-traumatic pain, post-operative pain, inflammatory conditions, migraine attacks, and joint stiffness from arthritis. Cataflam can also be used as an adjuvant treatment option in severe painful inflammatory infections of the ear, nose, or throat, e.g., pharyngotonsillitis and otitis media. The active substance in Cataflam is Diclofenac Potassium. Diclofenac Potassium belongs to the class of medication called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). It works by blocking your body's production of certain natural substances that cause inflammation. Reducing undue pain due to trauma or inflammatory conditions is essential to help the patient perform more unassisted activities.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Cataflam are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, ringing sensation in the ears, and heartburn.

Stop using Cataflam and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Bleeding per anus or passage of bloody stool;
• Blurred vision or difficulty with sight;
• Hearing impairment;
• Weight changes;
• Worsening of symptoms

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking Cataflam or its generic Diclofenac, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to it, or to aspirin or other NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib), or if you have any other allergies. Cataflam is a tablet and should be taken whole with a cup of water. Take your medicine as directed on the prescription label at the same time every day. Do not cut, crush, or chew this medication. Swallow the tablets whole. You can take this medication with or without food. If it upsets your stomach, take it with food. There are many brands and forms of Diclofenac Potassium. Because different forms or brands do not have the same effects at equal strengths, do not switch forms of Diclofenac unless your doctor tells you to. You should not use more than your prescribed dose. It would be best to know that your dose is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. For certain conditions (such as arthritis), taking this drug regularly may take up to 2 weeks to get the full benefit. If you are treating dysmenorrhea with Cataflam, you must use Cataflam as directed by your doctor. Cataflam can cause severe intestinal ulcers and bleeding, and it can happen without warning. Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol when taking Cataflam. Inform your doctor immediately if you have severe stomach pain or blood in your vomit or stool or if your condition gets worse. Before you start using Cataflam, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Heart diseases such as hypertension or heart failure;
• Intestinal ulcers, obstruction or perforation;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Respiratory disorders such as asthma and COPD;
• Stroke or other CNS disease

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant if you take Diclofenac Potassium. Using Cataflam in the last trimester or without discussing the risks with your doctor is unsafe during pregnancy. In addition, Diclofenac Potassium passes into breast milk and may be dangerous to breastfeeding while taking this medication. Therefore, it would be best to inform your doctor if you use Cataflam tablets before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Cataflam and other drugs such as lithium, aspirin, methotrexate, prednisolone, cidofovir, and ketorolac.
