Usage

Exforge (Amlodipine/Valsartan) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. The active ingredients in Exforge are Amlodipine and Valsartan. Amlodipine belongs to a class of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing the muscles of your heart and blood vessels. Valsartan belongs to the class of medication called angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB). It works by preventing the blood vessels from narrowing to improve blood flow and lower blood pressure.

The common side effects of Exforge are dizziness, sore throat, and swelling in your hands or feet.

Stop using Exforge and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Lightheaded feeling, like you may pass out;
• Signs of heart problems, such as rapid weight gain, shortness of breath;
• Signs of high blood potassium, such as nausea, weakness, tingly feeling, chest pain

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Amlodipine/Valsartan, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to any ingredient in the drug or have any other allergies. Exforge is a tablet, and it should be taken orally (by mouth) as directed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. You may take the drug with or without food. You may need to check your blood pressure often. Your treatment may also include diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes. This drug can cause dizziness. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall. Avoid drinking alcohol when using this drug. Alcohol can increase the side effects of Exforge.

• Have kidney disease;
• Have liver disease

Inform your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Exforge will harm your unborn baby and may cause death to the baby if used during the second or third trimester. Use reliable forms of birth control to prevent pregnancy when using this drug. Do not breastfeed when using Amlodipine/Valsartan. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Exforge and other drugs, such as cyclosporine, sildenafil, rifampin, ritonavir, atorvastatin, tramadol, metoprolol, alprazolam, etc.
