Product Details
Femara (Letrozole) is used for the treatment of certain types of breast cancer (such as hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer in women after menopause. Letrozole belongs to the group of cancer-fighting medications known as antineoplastics. It may also be used to prevent the cancer for recurring. This medication works by lowering the levels of estrogen in the body of women who have been through the menopause. This helps to slow down the progress of certain forms of breast cancer, as these need oxygen to grow and spread. Letrozole if often prescribed to women who have been taking Tamoxifen for five years or more. In women who have been through the menopause, androgens are converted to estrogen which is called aromatisation and this medication works by blocking this process. It is most often prescribed to women who have early breast cancer and have had surgery to remove a tumor. It may also be given pre-surgery to some women if the doctor believes it would benefit the patient.

The common side effects may include dizziness, fatigue and trouble sleeping, headache, muscle or joint pain, hot flashes, nausea, swelling in your hands, ankles or feet, night sweats, and weight gain. The serious side effects may include:
• Blurred vision;
• Dark urine, yellowing eyes/skin;
• Depression and anxiety;
• Mental or mood changes;
• Nausea and vomiting;
• Unusual tiredness

You should not use Femara if you are allergic to Letrozole, or if you have not gone completely through menopause. Before you start taking this medication, inform your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. Femara can harm an unborn baby or cause birth defects. You should not use Femara if you are pregnant, or if you have not completely gone through menopause. Inform your doctor right away if you become pregnant during treatment. It is unknown whether Letrozole passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not breast-feed while you are using this medicine. This medication should not be used in men, children or women who have not gone through menopause.
