Usage

Ketasma (Ketotifen) is a prescription medication used to prevent allergic symptoms of allergic rhinitis. These symptoms include nasal congestion, runny, itchy nose, sneezing, watery eyes, and itchy, red eyes, etc. Ketasma is also used for the treatment of asthma attacks, bronchial asthma, and especially mild atopic asthma in children above 3 years old. The active ingredient in Ketasma is Ketotifen. Ketotifen belongs to a class of drugs called antihistamines. It works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine). It is also a mast cell stabilizer that prevents allergic reactions by reducing the release of natural substances that cause an allergic reaction.

The common side effects of Ketasma are dry mouth, dizziness, and irritability.

Stop using Ketasma and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Bladder infection;
• Insomnia;

• Signs of allergic reaction, such as breathing difficulties, hive, swelling of the face, lips, and throat

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Ketotifen, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to any ingredient in the drug or have any other allergies. Ketasma is a tablet, and it should be taken orally (by mouth) as directed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. You may take the drug with or without food. This drug can cause dizziness. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall. Avoid driving or hazardous activity until you know how this medicine will affect you. Avoid drinking alcohol when using this drug. Alcohol can increase the side effects of Ketasma. Ketotifen is used to help prevent asthma attacks. It will not relieve an asthma attack that has already started. You must take this drug continuously to get maximum benefit from it.

Before you start using Ketasma, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Become pregnant or nursing a child;
• Hace diabetes;
• Have electrolyte imbalance;
• Have epilepsy;
• Have heart disease;
• Have thyroid problems

Inform your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is unknown if Ketasma will harm your unborn baby. Discuss the risks and benefits of using this drug in pregnancy with your doctor. Do not breastfeed when using Ketotifen. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Ketasma and other drugs, such as Amifampridine, Bupropion, Donepezil, Pitolisant, etc.
