Mederma Information

Mederma Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the brand Mederma from Canada by MERZ. There is no generic version available. Our customers may also order Dovonex and other Skin medications (topical/oral). For more information, please call Customer Service toll-free at 1866.920.3784.

Dosage

Mederma is available in the strength of 20 ml Scargel.

Usage

Mederma is an over-the-counter medication used as a moisturizer to treat or prevent dry, rough, scaly, itchy skin and minor skin irritations. These skin irritations occur when the skin comes in contact with an allergen or irritant. Mederma may also be used to treat diaper rash and skin burns from radiation therapy. The drug is also used to reduce the appearance of scars, including stretch marks, acne scars, surgical scars, and scars resulting from injury or burns. The active ingredient in Mederma is Allantoin. Allantoin belongs to a class of drugs called emollients. It works by forming an oily layer on the top of the skin to trap water in the skin. This helps the dead skin cells fall off, helps the skin keep in more water, and leaves the skin feeling smoother and softer.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Mederma are burning, stinging, redness, and irritation at the application site.

Stop using Mederma and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Unusual changes in the skin;
• Signs of skin infection;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as breathing difficulties, rash, swelling of the face, lips, or throat

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Mederma, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. Mederma is a gel. Apply this drug on the skin only. Please do not take it by mouth. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after using the drug. Ensure that the affected area is clean and dry before applying Mederma. Apply to the affected areas of the skin as needed. Massage the gel in until fully absorbed. Avoid sensitive areas such as your eyes, inside your mouth or nose, and the vaginal area. Do not apply this medication on broken, chapped, or recently shaved skin. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To treat dry hands, you may need to use the product every time you wash your hands, applying it throughout the day. To treat diaper rash, clean the area well and allow the area to dry before applying the medication. Most moisturizers need water to work well. Apply the product after bathing or showering while the skin is still damp. You may need to soak the area before using the product for very dry skin. However, long, hot, or frequent bathing can worsen dry skin. This medication may increase your sensitivity to the sun. Apply sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors.

Before you start using Mederma, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding;
• Have skin sores or infection

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if Mederma will harm a fetus. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown if Mederma passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Do not use Mederma in children without talking to your doctor. There may be a drug interaction between Mederma and other drugs, such as other topical medications.
