Usage

Moviprep (Polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution) is a laxative solution used to cleanse the bowel before an endoscopic procedure such as colonoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy. The major constituents are sodium, potassium, and other essential electrolytes. Moviprep belongs to the class of medication called laxatives (bowel preparation). It works by inducing osmotic effects and restoring lost electrolytes through stool. It is important to empty the bowel so the intestinal lining can be appropriately examined during colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy procedures.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Moviprep are nausea, vomiting, bloating, abdominal pain, anal irritation, and weakness.

Stop using Moviprep and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Difficulty breathing;
• Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and throat;
• Unable to move bowel within four hours of taking Moviprep

Warnings and Interactions

Before your procedure, inform your doctor if you are allergic to Moviprep. Your doctor will use an alternative laxative for the procedure. Discussing your previous experience with Moviprep or similar laxatives with your doctor would be best. Avoid a high-fiber diet before your procedure, and do not eat anything after breakfast the day before your endoscopic procedure until after your appointment. Open the pack and dissolve Moviprep' Sachet A' and 'Sachet B' in 1 liter of water. A day before the procedure, drink a glassful of the solution every 15 to 30 minutes until the liter is finished. Take one liter of Moviprep early in the morning of your examination. You should follow your doctor's direction on how to prepare laxatives. If you are not adequately prepared, the procedure may not be successful and may even result in the cancellation of the procedure. Do not use other medication with Moviprep, as this may complicate the procedure. Moviprep increases bowel movements, so stay near a toilet because you may need to use it urgently.

Before you start using Moviprep, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency;
• Inflammatory bowel disease;
• Intestinal obstruction, perforation, or stomach emptying disorder;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Paralytic ileus;
• Toxic megacolon

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is unknown if Moviprep laxative affects pregnant or nursing mothers. Your doctors will decide if the benefits outweigh the risks. There may be a drug interaction between Moviprep and other drugs such as antidiabetic and warfarin. Store the medication in a safe and secure place.
