Dosage

Naprosyn is available in the strength of 250 mg, 375 mg, 500 mg tablets, and 750 mg sustained-release tablets. The generic Naproxen is available in the strength of 125 mg, 250 mg, 375 mg, 500 mg tablets, and 25 mg/ml/474 ml oral suspension.

Usage

Naprosyn (Naproxen) is a prescription medicine used to relieve pain from various conditions such as headaches, muscle aches, tendonitis, dental pain, and menstrual cramps. Naproxen reduces pain, swelling, and joint stiffness caused by arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, bursitis, and gout attacks. The active ingredient in Naprosyn is Naproxen. Naproxen belongs to a category of drugs called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by blocking the body's production of natural substances that cause inflammation. Naprosyn delayed-release tablets are slower-acting forms of the drug and are only used for treating chronic conditions like arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis. These forms of Naprosyn will not work fast enough to treat acute pain.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Naprosyn are nausea, vomiting, heartburn, headache, dizziness, and easy bruising.

Stop using Naprosyn and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Allergic reactions with swelling of the face or other parts of the body and breathing difficulties;
• Rapid weight gain;
• Shortness of breath even with mild exertion;
• Signs of stomach bleeding such as bloody stools, coughing up blood, or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;
• Worsen of intestinal ulcer or severe abdominal pain

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking Naproxen, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, aspirin, other NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen and celecoxib), or any other allergies. It is crucial to continue using this medication exactly as your doctor prescribes. Naprosyn is available as a tablet and oral suspension. Do not take this medicine for longer than recommended. Shake the oral suspension well just before you measure a dose. Measure the liquid medicine using a dosing syringe or medicine cap. Take the tablets by mouth with a full glass of water. Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking this drug. Take this medication with food, milk, or an antacid to prevent stomach upset. Naproxen can increase your risk of fatal heart attack or stroke. Do not use the drug just before or after heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG). Avoid drinking alcohol when using Naprosyn. It may increase your risk of stomach bleeding.

Before you start using Naprosyn, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Asthma;
• Bleeding disorder;
• High blood pressure;
• Intestinal ulcer;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Stroke

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. You should not use Naprosyn when pregnant. Taking Naproxen during the last 20 weeks of pregnancy can cause severe heart or kidney problems in the unborn baby and possible complications with your pregnancy. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Women using Naprosyn should not breastfeed a baby. Naproxen passes into breast milk, and it may affect your nursing infant. Naproxen oral suspension is unsafe for children below 2 years of age. Naprosyn tablets should not be used by children under 18 years of age. There may be a drug interaction between Naprosyn and other drugs such as cholestyramine, lithium, probenecid, methotrexate, digoxin, and cyclosporine.
