Usage

Natazia (Estradiol Valerate/Dienogest) is a prescription medication used to prevent pregnancy. The drug is also used to make periods more regular, decrease blood loss and painful periods, and treat acne. The drug may also help decrease your risk of ovarian cysts. The active ingredients in Natazia are Estradiol Valerate and Dienogest. Estradiol Valerate belongs to a class of drugs called estrogens. Dienogest belongs to the class of medication called progestins. They work by preventing ovulation and causing changes to your cervical mucus, making it harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Natazia are weight gain, light vaginal bleeding, nausea, and breast pain.

Stop using Natazia and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Breast lump;
• Migraine headaches;
• Signs of heart attack, such as chest pain, nausea, sweating, and pain spreading to your jaw;
• Sudden pelvic pain;
• Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking Estradiol Valerate/Dienogest, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to any ingredient in the drug or have any other allergies. Natazia is a tablet, and it should be taken orally (by mouth) as directed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. Take one pill daily in the exact order directed on the blister pack. Follow the arrows shown on each row of pills in the pack. Use back-up birth control, such as condoms or a spermicide, for the first nine days. Do not take two different kinds of birth control pills at the same time. If you are switching from another birth control pill, start taking Natazia on the first day of your period. If you were taking progestin-only pills, start taking Natazia on the day you would have taken your next pill. If you are switching from a birth control implant, intrauterine device (IUD), vaginal ring, or skin patch, start taking Natazia on the day the other birth control device is removed. If you are switching from a birth control injection, start taking Natazia on the day you would have received your next scheduled injection. If you need surgery or medical tests or will be on bed rest, you may need to stop using this medicine briefly. Missing a pill by more than 12 hours increases your risk of becoming pregnant. Vomiting or having diarrhoea within 4 hours after taking a pill is the same as missing that dose. If you miss a period for two months in a row, call your doctor because you might be pregnant. Natazia will not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases - including HIV and AIDS. Using a condom is the only way to protect yourself from these diseases. Avoid smoking when using this birth control pill. Smoking can increase your risk of blood clots.

Before you start using Natazia, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Become pregnant or nursing a child;
• Have a blood clotting disorder;
• Have heart disease;
• Have liver problems;
• Have seizures;
• Have severe migraine headaches;
• Have uncontrolled high blood pressure;
• Have unusual vaginal bleeding

Inform your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. This drug is used to prevent pregnancy. It is unknown if Natazia will harm your unborn baby. Stop taking Natazia if you become pregnant. Estradiol Valerate and Dienogest pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. The hormones can also slow breast milk production. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Estradiol Valerate/Dienogest and other drugs, such as tamoxifen, anastrozole, ritonavir, griseofulvin, St. John's wort, carbamazepine, phenytoin, etc.
