Usage

NexGard Spectra (Afoxolaner/Milbemycin Oxime) is a prescription medication used to treat and control flea infestations. The drug is also used to control tick infestations. Controlling tick and flea infestations in dogs helps prevent the transmission of serious diseases like Lyme disease. NexGard Spectra is also used to prevent heartworm disease and to treat and control intestinal nematode infections caused by adult hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms. The active ingredients in NexGard Spectra are Afoxolaner and Milbemycin Oxime. Afoxolaner belongs to a class of drugs called isoxazoline insecticides. Milbemycin Oxime belongs to a class of medications called antihelmintics. They work by disrupting the nervous system of fleas and ticks, leading to their paralysis and eventually death. Milbemycin Oxime belongs to a class of drugs called antihelmintics.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of NexGard Spectra are hyperactivity, anorexia, diarrhea, and vomiting.

Stop administering NexGard Spectra and contact your veterinarian immediately if your dog has any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Signs of neurological adverse reactions, such as tremors, ataxia, and seizures

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Afoxolaner/Milbemycin Oxime, tell your veterinarian if you are allergic to any ingredient in the drug or have any other allergies. NexGard Spectra comes as a chewable tablet and should be taken by mouth (orally) as directed by your veterinarian. The tablets are chewable and palatable to most dogs. If your dog does not accept the tablets directly, administer it with food. Monitor your dog for a few minutes to ensure no part of the dose is lost. Your dog's dose will depend on its weight. This medicine is for use in NexGard Spectra only. Do not take this drug. Ingestion may lead to gastrointestinal disturbances. Wash your hands after administering this medicine. To be effective, NexGard Spectra should be administered every 30 days. The duration of treatment will depend on what you are treating. For flea prevention and treatment, apply this medicine just before fleas become active. For heartworm prevention, administer NexGard Spectra monthly, beginning one month after the dog's first exposure to mosquitoes and continuing for 6 months after the dog's last exposure.

Before you start administering NexGard Spectra, inform your veterinarian about your dog's medical history, especially if it:
• Has a history of seizures;
• Is lactating;
• Is pregnant or breeding

Inform your veterinarian about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your veterinarian if your dog is pregnant or breeding. It is unknown whether NexGard Spectra is safe for pregnant or breeding dogs. Inform your veterinarian if your dog is breastfeeding. The safety of NexGard Spectra in lactating dogs is unknown. There may be a drug interaction between NexGard Spectra and other drugs.
