Usage

Nitrostat (Nitroglycerin) sublingual tablets are used to treat chest pain people who have coronary artery disease. This medication is also used to prevent chest pain before physical activities. Nitroglycerin belongs to a class of drugs known as nitrates. This medication works by relaxing and widening blood vessels so blood can flow more easily to the heart.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common Nitrostat side effects may include dizziness, feeling weak or dizzy, flushing, headache, increased sweating, mild burning or tingling with the tablet in your mouth, nausea, pale skin, spinning sensation, and vomiting.

Seek emergency medical attention if you have symptoms of a heart attack or an allergic reaction. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Blurred vision or dry mouth;
• Feeling like you might pass out;
• Pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest;
• Slow heart rate;
• Severe or throbbing headaches that do not become less severe after continued use

Warnings and Interactions

You should not use Nitrostat if you are allergic to Nitroglycerin or if you are using medications to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), such as riociguat, sildenafil, or tadalafil. Do not take ED drugs while taking this medication as it can cause a sudden and serious decrease in blood pressure. You should not use Nitrostat sublingual tablets if you have:
• Increase pressure inside the skull;
• Severe anemia;
• Symptoms of a heart attack;
• Symptoms of circulation problems or shock

Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history especially if you have ever had:
• A heart attack, stroke, or head injury;
• Congestive heart failure or a heart rhythm disorder;
• Headaches;
• If you are dehydrated;
• Low blood pressure

Nitrostat may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly to prevent a fall. Avoid drinking as it may increase certain side effects of Nitroglycerin. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Nitroglycerin and other medications such as aspirin or heparin, diuretics, drugs used to treat depression or mental illness, and ergot medicine to treat migraines, etc. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
