Product Details

Nizoral (Ketoconazole) is a prescription medication that is used for the treatment of fungal infections of the skin and nails. Ketoconazole belongs to the family of medications called antifungals. This medication works by preventing the growth of fungus. Ketoconazole 2% shampoo works to manage the dandruff-associated symptoms such as flaking, itching scalp, and scaling; this medication is also used to treat a skin condition known as pityriasis, a fungal infection that causes a lightening or darkening of the skin of the neck, chest, arms or legs.

Nizoral Side Effects

Stop using the medication and get medical care if you have an allergic reaction. Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

Common side effects of ketoconazole include scalp irritation or discoloration, change in hair texture, or new, unusual bumps on the scalp.

Inform your doctor immediately if you experience any serious side effects such as hair loss.

Nizoral Precautions

You should not use Nizoral cream or shampoo if you are allergic to Ketoconazole or if you have any other allergies. This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless it is clearly needed. The Nizoral shampoo should not be used by children under 12 years old. There may be an interaction between Ketoconazole and other medications such as caffeine, alcohol, the nicotine from cigarettes, street drugs, etc.
