Usage

Onreltea (Brimonidine Tartrate) is a prescription medication that is used to treat the redness of the skin that is caused by rosacea. Brimondine belongs to the class of medications called selective alpha-2 adrenergic agonists. This medication works by narrowing the blood vessels in the skin to reduce the redness caused by rosacea. Brimonidine gel begins to work within 30 minutes of applying it to the affected skin. The maximum effect can be seen approximately 3 hours after application.

Side Effects

The possible side effects of Onreltea includes acne, dry mouth, dry skin, cold hands and feet, headache, itching, flushing, nasal congestion, redness, skin burning sensation, tingling or burning where the gel is applied and warm skin sensation. Talk to your doctor as soon as possible if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Eyelid swelling;
• Headache;
• Rash;
• Skin disease or discomfort;
• Worsening of rosacea

Warnings and Interactions

You should not use Onreltea if you are allergic to Brimonidine or to apraclonidine or if you have:
• An autoimmune disorder called Sjogren's syndrome;
• A certain skin/connective tissue disease called Scleroderma;
• Blood vessel disorder;
• Depression;
• Heart disease;
• Low blood pressure;
• Raynaud’s disease;

Onreltea topical gel is for topical use only and not for oral, ophthalmic, or intravaginal use. Do not apply Onreltea gel to irritated skin or open wounds. Avoid contact with the eyes and lips. Before you start taking this medication, inform your doctor about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. You should also avoid certain triggers that may worsen rosacea such as alcohol, extreme cold, hot beverages, spicy foods, sun exposure and wind. Limit your exposure to the sun by wearing a hat and using sunscreen of SPF 15 or greater. Onreltea gel should only be used during pregnancy if it is clearly needed. It is unknown if Brimonidine passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Onreltea gel should be stored at room temperature away from light and moisture and away from children and pets. Do not store Onreltea gel in the bathroom.
