Dosage

Pletal and the generic Cilostazol is available in the strength of 50 mg and 100 mg tablets.

Usage

Pletal (Cilostazol) is a prescription medication used to reduce the symptoms of intermittent claudication. Claudication is the pain you feel when your leg muscles don't get enough blood while you exercise. This condition shows that plaque has built up in the arteries in your legs, causing blockages and making it harder for blood to get through. The active ingredient in Pletal is Cilostazol. Cilostazol belongs to a class of drugs called vasodilators. It works by relaxing the muscles in your blood vessels to help them dilate (widen) and supply blood to your legs. This medicine also improves circulation by keeping platelets in the blood from sticking together and clotting.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Pletal are diarrhea, headache, and fast heartbeat.

Stop using Pletal and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Chest pain;
• Unusual bleeding;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as breathing difficulties, rash, swelling of the face, lips, or throat;
• Signs of an infection, such as fever, chills, or sore throat that doesn't go away

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Pletal, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. Pletal is a capsule. Take Pletal exactly as your doctor prescribes. Take the capsules whole, twice a day, on an empty stomach. You can take the drug at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after breakfast or dinner. Take the medicine at the same time every day to help you remember. It may take up to 12 weeks before your symptoms improve. Keep using the medication as directed, and tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 3 months of treatment. Avoid consuming grapefruit while using Pletal. Grapefruit products may increase the side effects of the drug. Cilostazol may cause dizziness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how the drug affects you. Taking alcohol may also increase the risk of dizziness.

Before you start using Pletal, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding;

• Have kidney disease;
• Have liver problems;
• Have ever had a stroke

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is unknown if Pletal will harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown if Cilostazol passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. The use of Pletal should be avoided in children. There may be a drug interaction between Pletal and other drugs such as aspirin, omeprazole, tramadol, etc.
