Usage

Rilutek (Riluzole) is a prescription medication used to treat Lou Gehrig's disease or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS is a fatal neuron disease caused by the progressive degeneration of spinal cord and brain nerve cells. The deterioration in nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord often results from too much glutamate. The active ingredient in Rilutek is Riluzole. Riluzole belongs to the class of medication called Benzothiazoles. It works by changing the activity of glutamate in the body. Although there is no known cure for ALS, Rilutek may delay the disease's progression and prolong life.

The common side effects of Rilutek are breathing difficulties, dizziness, high blood pressure, and stomach upset.
