Seasonale Product Details

Seasonale (levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol) is a combination contraception medication that is used to prevent pregnancy. This medication contains two hormones, progestin (levonorgestrel) and an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol). This medication works by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) during your menstrual cycle. It also makes vaginal fluid thicker to help prevent sperm from reaching an egg (fertilization) and changes the lining of the uterus to prevent a fertilized egg from being attached to the uterus. Birth control pills may also make your periods more regular, it decreases blood loss and painful periods. It also reduces your risk of ovarian cysts and also treats acne. Seasonale will not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases.

Seasonale Side Effects and Precautions

The common Seasonale side effects may include bloating, breast tenderness, headache, nausea, vomiting, swelling of the ankles or feet and weight changes. The serious side effects may include:
• Breast lumps;
• Darkening of the skin;
• Dizziness;
• Flu-like symptoms;
• Fluid retention;
• Lack of period;
• Loss of scalp hair;
• Pain or tenderness in the abdomen;
• Vaginal infections

You should not take Seasonale if you are pregnant or if you have recently had a baby. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications that you currently take including OTC and herbal medications. This medication can cause birth defects. You should not use this medication if you are pregnant. Inform your doctor right away if you become pregnant or if you miss two menstrual periods in a row. The hormones in Seasonale can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Seasonale may also slow the production of breast milk. You should not use it if you are breast feeding a baby. This medication should not be used by people with severe or uncontrolled high blood pressure. Birth Control pills can affect blood sugar. You should smoke while taking this medication because smoking increases the risk of heart disease and death. Some medications may cause hormonal birth control to work less well by decreasing the amount of birth control hormones in your body. There may be an interaction between Seasonale and other medications such as anastrozole, exemestane, rasagiline, celecoxib, rifampin, clomipramine, cyclsoporine, selegiline, tetracyclines, warfarin, vitamin c, venlafaxine, etc.
