Syntocinon Injection Information

Syntocinon Injection Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the generic Syntocinon Injection from Canada. The brand version is not available. Our customers may also buy Women's health medications such as Addyi and Provera.

Dosage

Syntocinon Injection is available in the strength of 10 IU/ml (5 x 5 ml and 10 X 1 ml Ampoules) for injection

Usage

Syntocinon Injection (Oxytocin) is a prescription medicine used to initiate (or improve) uterine contraction during labor. It can also be used immediately after delivery to prevent excessive bleeding (postpartum hemorrhage). The active ingredient in Syntocinon injection is Oxytocin. Oxytocin belongs to the class of medication called oxytocic (uterotonic). Syntocinon is a man-made chemical identical to a natural hormone called Oxytocin. It stimulates the uterus (womb) muscles to produce rhythmic contractions. As a result, these increased uterine contractions help in the delivery of the child.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Syntocinon Injection are headache, abnormal bleeding, dizziness, lightheadedness or faintness, excessive or continuous contractions, fetal hypoxia, feeling drowsy and lethargic, and pain in the abdomen that is different from the labor pains.

Stop using Syntocinon Injection and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Blood and lymphatic system disorders such as thrombocytosis and pancytopenia;
• Body swellings;
• Eye problems such as double vision;
• Fever;
• Flu-like symptoms;
• Heart failure;
• Infections and infestations such as Cryptococcal cutaneous infection, furuncle, rash;
• Severe neutropenia or agranulocytosis;
• Sore throat;
• Vascular disorders such as Hypotension, hypertension

Warnings and Interactions

You should inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Oxytocin, any other medications, or any ingredients in oxytocin injection. Your doctor will examine you to see if you can take this injection. Do not self-administer this medication. If you have ever had uterine surgery, cesarean, or premature labor, please inform your doctor before taking Syntocinon Injection to avoid any complications. It is given intravenously (into a vein) in a hospital setting. If Syntocinon is needed at delivery or to prevent excessive bleeding, it can also be given intramuscularly (into a muscle) or by slow intravenous injection directly into a vein. If you think that the effect of Syntocinon is too strong or too weak, tell your doctor or midwife. While you are receiving Syntocinon, both you and your baby will be closely monitored from time to time.

Your doctor may not give you a Syntocinon injection to initiate contraction during labor if you have any of the following:
• Fetal distress where delivery is not imminent;
• Genital herpes;
• Hypertonic uterine patterns;
• Hypersensitive to the Oxytocin;
• Obstetric conditions where vaginal delivery is contraindicated, such as cord presentation or prolapse, total placental previa, and vasa previa;
• Prolonged use in uterine inertia or severe toxemia;
• Significant cephalopelvic disproportion;
• Unfavorable fetal positions (transverse lies)

Before you start using Syntocinon Injection, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• A previous cesarean section;
• High blood pressure (hypertensive);
• Kidney problems, as Syntocinon can cause water retention;
• Liver problems;
• Your pregnancy is more than 40 weeks old;
• Your womb was contracting strongly but has now begun to contract less strongly

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Inform your doctor of the gestational age of your pregnancy before administering this medication. Based on a wide experience of use and the nature of this medicine, it is not expected that Syntocinon would be a risk to your baby when used correctly. Syntocinon may be found in small amounts in breast milk but is not likely to have harmful effects because your baby's digestive system quickly inactivates it. We encourage you to discuss your fear with your doctor if you have any. There may be a drug interaction between Syntocinon Injection and other drugs such as anesthetics medications such as halothane, cyclopropane, sevoflurane or desflurane), fexinidazole, lefamulin, mefloquine, and misoprostol.
