Product Details

Verkazia (Cyclosporine) is a medication used to treat severe vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC), an allergic condition that affects the eye and mostly occurs seasonally. Some patients can have symptoms that can recur or persist all year round. Cyclosporine belongs to a class of drugs known as immunosuppresants. This medication works by reducing the activity of the body’s immune system and this way it reduces inflammation. Verkazia is used in children and adolescents from 4 to 18 years of age with severe VKC that occurs mostly in the spring and affects the transparent layer in the front part of the eye and the thin membrane that covers the front part of the eye. The recommended dose is one drop in each affected eye four times a day.

The most common side effect is pain when the drops are instilled in the eye. The other common side effects may include:

• Blurred vision;
• Cough;
• Headache;
• Irritation and discomfort in and around the eye;
• Swelling or redness of the eyelid;
• Upper respiratory tract infection

Do not use Verkazia if you are allergic to Cyclosporine or to any of the ingredients in this medication or if you have an eye infection or cancer in and around the eye. Talk to your doctor if you have an eye infection, any other kind of eye disease or wear contact lenses. Do not use Verkazia in children under the age of 4 years old. If you use Verkazia longer than 12 months, visit your doctor regularly every 3 to 6 months. If you use other eye drops, use them at least 15 minutes before you use Verkazia. Your vision may be temporarily blurred after using Verkazia eye drops, wait until your vision clears before you drive or use machines. Do not stop using Verkazia without speaking to your doctor as your allergy will not be controlled and could lead to long-term problems with your eyesight.
