Usage

Vetoryl (Trilostane) is a prescription medication used to treat hyperadrenocorticism or Cushing's Disease in dogs and cats. Hyperadrenocorticism is when a pet's adrenal glands produce too much cortisol, a naturally occurring steroid produced by the body. The active ingredient in Vetoryl is Trilostane. Trilostane belongs to a class of drugs called steroidogenesis inhibitors. It works by reducing the amount of steroids produced by the adrenal gland.

The common side effects of Vetoryl are appetite loss, lethargy, and diarrhea;

Stop administering Vetoryl and contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet has any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Collapse;
• Irritability;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as facial swelling, increased salivation, swollen lips, hives

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Trilostane, tell your veterinarian if your dog is allergic to any ingredient in the drug or has any other allergies. Vetoryl comes as a capsule and should be taken by mouth (orally) as directed by your veterinarian. Do not open or split the capsules. Wash your hands with soap and water after administration to avoid exposure to the drug. Give this drug to your dog with food. The dosage will be based on the weight of your pet. Start with the lowest possible dose based on body weight and available combinations of capsule sizes. Re-examine your dog after 10 to 14 days at this dose and every dose alteration. Once an optimum dose of Vetoryl Capsules has been reached, re-examine the dog at 30 days, 90 days, and every 3 months thereafter. This drug is for use in dogs only. It is not for human use. Do not handle the capsules if you are pregnant or if you are trying to conceive.

Before you start administering Vetoryl, inform your veterinarian about your dog's medical history, especially if it:
• Has kidney disease;
• Has liver disease;
• Has primary hepatic disease;
• Has renal insufficiency;
• Is lactating;
• Is pregnant or breeding

Inform your veterinarian about all your pet's medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your veterinarian if your dog is pregnant or breeding. Vetoryl may harm a pregnant drug, causing pregnancy loss. Inform your vet if your dog is lactating. The safe use of this drug in lactating dogs has not been established. There may be a drug interaction between Vetoryl and other drugs.
