Usage

Zerlasiran (Zerlasiran) is a prescription medication used to lower the level of cholesterol (Lipoprotein (a)) in the body. Zerlasiran is designed to reduce cholesterol levels and cardiovascular risk in people born with high levels of Lipoprotein (a). Zerlasiran is the active ingredient in this medication. Zerlasiran belongs to the class of drugs called Antihyperlipidemic (Cardiovascular therapies). Zerlasiran is a gene-slicing therapy designed to temporarily block a specific gene's message that would otherwise trigger an unwanted effect. It works by silencing the LPA gene. The Lp(a) levels are lowered, which is expected to lower the risk of heart diseases, heart attacks, and strokes.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Zerlasiran are headache, injection site pain, back pain, fatigue, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and nausea.

Stop using Zerlasiran and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Severe headache that doesn't go away despite medication;
• Severe abdominal pain;
• Unintended weight gain;

Warnings and Interactions

Zerlasiran is an injection vial, and it should be administered subcutaneously by a trained clinical staff member. This medication can lower as much as 90% of 'bad' cholesterol (Lipoprotein (a)). Zerlasiran removes lipoproteins from the blood and is only available for people with certain Lipoprotein (a) levels and other risk factors. Your doctor will need to check your cholesterol level before prescribing this medication. You should follow your prescription label carefully and do not increase your dosage while taking this medication. Do not miss your clinic appointment for regular assessment. Inform your doctor if there is no improvement in your condition or your symptoms worsen.

• Planned cardiac surgery or arterial revascularization;
• Previously received ribonucleic acid therapy specifically targeting Lp(a);
• Serious cardiac problems such as severe heart failure;
• Severe kidney problems;
