Product Details

Ziana (Clindamycin Phosphate/Tretinoin) is a combination antibiotic medication of clindamycin and tretinoin used to treat severe nodular acne in adults and children over 12 years old. Clindamycin is the antibiotic medication, while tretinoin is a form of vitamin A that helps your skin renew itself more quickly.

Common side effects may include mild skin irritation, dryness or peeling, mild skin redness, or itching of treated skin. The serious side effects may include:

• Diarrhea that is bloody or watery
• Severe redness, burning, stinging, or scaling of treated skin
• Signs of allergic reaction:
o Difficulty breathing
o Hives
o Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat

You should not use Ziana if you are allergic to Clindamycin Phosphate/Tretinoin, or if you have inflammation of your intestines, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or if you have ever had severe diarrhea caused by an antibiotic. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. It isn’t known how Ziana affects an unborn baby, but it can pass into breastmilk and cause harm. It’s best to avoid taking this medication while pregnant or nursing. This medicine isn’t approved for anyone younger than 12 years old.

Precautions

Follow your doctor’s advice and follow all medication guidelines for your medication. Use it exactly as prescribed. Do not take Ziana in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Using more medicine or applying it more frequently can increase side effects and will not make it work faster. Wash your hands before applying the gel. Use a pea-sized amount of Ziana and apply to the entire face at bedtime every night. Do not wash your face more than 3x daily while using this medication. Avoid getting it in your eyes, nose or mouth. Use it for the entire prescription duration, even if you think it isn’t working. Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light. Do not allow it to freeze.

There may be an interaction between Ziana and other medications. Talk to your doctor before you use other medications while on Ziana. To ensure this medication is right for you, be sure to tell your doctor if any of the following conditions apply to you:

• Any allergies
• History of stomach or intestinal disorders
