Zoladex Injection Information

Zoladex injection Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the brand Zoladex injection from Turkey manufactured by AstraZeneca. The generic version is not available.

Dosage

The brand Zoladex injection is available in the strength of 3.6 mg and 10.8 mg vials.

Usage

Zoladex injection (Goserelin) is an antineoplastic medication that is used in the treatment of symptoms of prostate cancer in men. It can also be used in treating breast cancer and endometriosis in women. The active substance in Zoladex is Goserelin. Goserelin belongs to a class of drugs called gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists. It works by blocking the production of sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen by the pituitary gland. The resulting lack of testosterone in men interferes with stimulating cell growth in testosterone-dependent cancer cells.

Side Effects and Precautions

The most common side effects of Zoladex include hot flashes, reduced libido, and the inability to attain or sustain an erection (impotent). Other side effects may include sweating, mood swing, acne, headache, swelling in your hands or feet, mild skin rash, and itching. Zoladex can cause diarrhea. If you have diarrhea that is watery or bloody, call your doctor before you use anti-diarrhea medication.

Stop using Zoladex and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Changes in mood such as depression;
• Constipation;
• Extreme fatigue (unable to carry on self-care activities);
• Increased thirst;
• Implant site reactions such as pain, bruising, swelling, redness, seeping, or bleeding;
• Severe bone pain;
• Slurred speech;
• Swelling of the feet or ankles, sudden weight gain;
• Troubling remembering things;
• Urinary retention or inability to urinate;
• Weakness, numbness, or tingling in arms or leg

Warnings and Interactions

You should not use Zoladex if you are allergic to goserelin, LHRH, or LHRH-like hormones (such as histrelin, triptorelin). It can cause hypersensitivity reactions such as hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Before you start using Zoladex, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Diabetes mellitus;
• Heart disease (such as heart attack);
• High cholesterol/triglyceride levels;
• HIV or treating HIV;
• Long-term alcohol use;
• Personal or family history of bone loss (osteoporosis);
• Unexplained abnormal vaginal bleeding;
• Urinary blockage problem;
• Smoking;
• Spinal cord problem;
• Stroke

It is not advisable to take alcoholic beverages while using Zoladex. Do not take aspirin, products containing aspirin (Anacin, Ecotrin) unless your doctor specifically permits it. Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Zoladex can harm the unborn baby. It would be best if you were on an approved contraceptive while taking Zoladex to avoid getting pregnant. Do not breastfeed while taking this medication. There may be a drug interaction between Zoladex and other drugs such as amiodarone, anagrelide, quinidine, droperidol, artemether, citalopram, disopyramide, etc.
