The Best Iron Supplements Infographic

written by CPOHealth - Jul 22, 2019

Up to 25% of the world’s population are affected by iron deficiency anemia. This happens when the body is low on its iron stores. The way to combat iron deficiency anemia (the most common type of anemia), may be to add an iron supplement to your diet. There are two types of iron supplements and knowing the difference can help you determine which one is right for you.

Heme iron products such as Hemeboost are naturally bioavailable and have a better absorption rate, as well as being safe for pregnant and nursing women. However, for vegans, they may not be the best option. Non-heme iron products are not as easily absorbed and may cause tummy upset for some. However, it’s possible taking them with vitamin C supplements or with foods high in vitamin C could increase their absorption rate.

Check out the infographic below to learn more about the two types of iron supplements, as well as which brands we carry here at Canada Pharmacy Online. If you’re ready to purchase your iron supplements, you may be happy to know they are available over-the-counter and do not require a prescription.
