Usage

Cabometyx (Cabozantinib) is a prescription medication used to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC). It is a type of cancer that begins in the cells of the kidneys. This medication is also used to treat hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which is a type of liver cancer in people who have been treated with Sorafenib (Nexafar). Cabozantinib belongs to the class of medications called tyrosine kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply, which helps slow or stop the spread of cancer cells.

Side Effects and Precautions

The most common side effects of Cabometyx may include constipation, decreased appetite, difficulty speaking, nausea, tiredness, vomiting, and weight loss. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects of Cabometyx such as:
• A skin problem called hand-foot skin reaction;
• A tear in your stomach or intestinal wall or an abnormal connection between two parts of your body;
• Adrenal gland problems;
• Bleeding;
• Blood clots, stroke, heart attack, and chest pain;
• Diarrhea;
• High blood pressure;
• Liver problems;
• Protein in your urine and possible kidney problems;
• Reversible Posterior Leukoencephalopathy Syndrome (RPLS);
• Severe jaw bone problems

Warnings and Interactions

You should not take Cabometyx if you are allergic to Cabozantinib or if you have any other allergies. Before you start using this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history especially if you:
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
• Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed;
• Have had a liver problem other than liver cancer;
• Have a recent history of bleeding, including coughing up or vomiting blood, or black tarry stools;
• Have an open or healing wound;
• Have high blood pressure;
• Plan to have any surgery or dental procedure, or have had a recent surgery

Cabometyx may cause fertility problems in females and males which affect your ability to have children. Avoid grapefruit products or treatment of St. John's wort during treatment. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Cabozantinib and other medications. Cabometyx can harm an unborn baby, use birth control to prevent pregnancy. Do not breastfeed while using this medication and for at least four months after your last dose.
