Clindesse (Clindamycin Phosphate) is a prescription medication used to treat bacterial vaginosis in women who are not pregnant. Bacterial vaginosis is an infection caused by changes in the amount of bacteria in your vagina. The active ingredient in Clindesse is Clindamycin Phosphate. Clindamycin Phosphate belongs to a class of drugs called antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Clindesse are mild stomach upset and vaginal discharge.

Stop using Clindesse and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Painful intercourse;
• Severe stomach cramps;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as skin rash, wheezing, breathing difficulties, swelling of the face, lips, or throat

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Clindamycin Phosphate, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to any ingredient in the drug or have any other allergies. Clindesse is a cream, and it should be applied vaginally as directed by your doctor. Avoid contact with your eyes or mouth. If this happens, wash with plenty of water. Wash your hands before and after use. Insert the applicator filled with medication high into the vagina and press the plunger to release the medication. This drug may be used at any time of the day because it is designed to leak very little medication out of the vagina. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve after several days. Do not have sexual intercourse or use other vaginal products, such as tampons or douches, while using Clindesse. The mineral oil in this medication can weaken rubber products such as latex condoms and diaphragms and lead to their failure. Do not use these products during treatment with this medication and for five days after treatment is over. Consult your doctor about other forms of barrier protection or birth control during this time. Use a sanitary napkin rather than a tampon to prevent staining of clothes and bed linens.

Before you start using Clindesse, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Become pregnant or nursing a child;
• Have Chron's disease;
• Have gastrointestinal disease

Inform your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is unknown if Clindesse will harm your unborn baby. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this drug in pregnancy with your doctor. Do not breastfeed when using Clindamycin Phosphate. It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Clindesse and other drugs, such as erythromycin etc.
