Product Details

Dilectin is a combination medication used to treat nausea and vomiting during pregnancy to help alleviate morning sickness. Pyridoxine is a form of vitamin B6, and Doxylamine is an antihistamine.

The common side effects of Dilectin includes: drowsiness.

The serious side effects may include:

• Signs of allergic reaction
o Hives
o Difficulty breathing
o Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat
• Worsening of morning sickness symptoms

You should not take Dilectin if you are allergic to Pyridoxine or Doxylamine, or any other antihistamine. If you have used an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days, you should not use Dilectin, as a dangerous drug interaction can occur.

Call your doctor if your symptoms don’t improve or get worse. Severe ongoing vomiting can lead to dehydration, which can cause serious problems for both you and the unborn baby.

Store this medication at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Keep the pills in their original container with its moisture-absorbing packet.

You should not breastfeed while on this medication.

Dilectin is not approved for anyone under the age of 18 years old.

Precautions

Be sure to take Dilectin exactly as your doctor prescribes for you. Follow all instructions that come with your medication.

Take Dilectin on an empty stomach with a full 8-ounce glass of water. Swallow the capsule or tablet whole and do not crush, chew, or break it. Dilectin can be taken at bedtime or in the morning, based on your doctor’s recommendation.

Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you currently take including OTC and herbal medications.

To ensure this medication is right for you, be sure to tell your doctor if any of the following conditions apply to you:

• A stomach ulcer
• Asthma or any other breathing disorder
• Bladder obstruction or other urinary problems
• Blockage in your digestive tract
• Glaucoma

There may be an interaction between Dilectin and other medications, including: MAO inhibitors. Talk to your doctor about the risks.

1. What would overdose symptoms of Dilectin look like?
Answer: Overdosing on this medication would cause dry mouth, extreme drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, restlessness, dilated pupils, rapid heartbeats, seizures, muscle pain or weakness, fever, and dark colored urine. Call Poison Control or seek immediate medical attention if you suspect an overdose.

2. What should I avoid while on Dilectin?
Answer: Avoid drinking alcohol. Not only is alcohol detrimental to a pregnancy, it can also increase drowsiness an impair reactions.

3. What is the typical dose for morning sickness?
Answer: Dilectin should be taken daily. The usual initial dose is 2 tablets at bedtime. The maximum dose is 4 tablets daily, if approved by your doctor.
