Usage

Duricef (Cefadroxil) is a prescription medication used to treat many infections caused by bacteria, such as infections of the skin, throat, tonsils, and urinary tract. The active ingredient in Duricef is Cefadroxil. Cefadroxil belongs to the class of medication called cephalosporin antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. You should know that Cefadroxil does not work for a viral infections such as the common cold or flu.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Cefadroxil Tablet are diarrhea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, and urticaria

Stop using Cefadroxil Tablet and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Dark-colored urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
• Mental or mood changes such as confusion;
• Persistence of nausea and vomiting;
• Persistence diarrhea;
• Signs of new infections such as persistent sore throat or fever;
• Severe abdominal pain or cramping

Warnings and Interactions

Before you start taking cefadroxil tablet, you should inform your doctor if you are allergic to it, or penicillin or other cephalosporins (such as ceftriaxone, cefazolin, cefepime, cefotaxime, etc.,), or if you have any other allergies. This medication comes as a tablet and should be taken by mouth with water. It is advisable to take Cefadroxil with food to reduce nausea and stomach upset. You should carefully follow the directions on your prescription label and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. You should begin to feel better during the first few days of treatment with Cefadroxil. However, call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or get worse. It would be best to continue to take Cefadroxil until you finish the prescription, even if you feel better. If you stop taking Cefadroxil too soon or skip doses, your infection may not be completely treated, and the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics.

Before you start using Cefadroxil Tablet, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:

• Intestinal diseases such as ulcerative colitis;

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Call your doctor immediately if you become pregnant while taking a Cefadroxil tablet. This medication passes into breastmilk and poses minimal risk to the infant when used during breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding your child. There may be a drug interaction between Duricef and other drugs such as live bacterial vaccines (such as typhoid vaccine), BCG vaccine live, cholera vaccine, digoxin, probenecid, and mycophenolate.
