Usage

Lamisil 1% (Terbinafine) is a prescription and over-the-counter medication used to treat fungal skin infections such as ringworm, athlete's foot, and jock itch. This drug is also used to treat a skin condition known as pityriasis (tinea versicolor). This fungal infection causes a lightening or darkening of the skin of the neck, chest, arms, or legs. The active ingredient in Lamisil 1% is Terbinafine. Terbinafine belongs to a class of drugs called antifungals. It works by stopping the growth of fungus.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Lamisil 1% are burning, irritation, or itching at the application site, rash, headache, and diarrhea.

Stop using Lamisil 1% and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Bloody urine;
• Persistent itching or burning at the application site;
• Rapid weight changes;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as wheezing, hives, itching, breathing difficulties, swelling of the face, lips, or throat;
• Sleep problems

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Terbinafine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to any ingredient in the drug or have any other allergies. Lamisil 1% comes as a cream and should be applied topically (on the skin) as directed by your doctor. Please do not take it by mouth. Apply a thin layer of the medication to the affected skin area. Continue to use this medication until the full treatment period is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may result in a return of the infection. It may take several weeks after treatment for the infection to heal completely. Inform your doctor if your condition worsens or does not improve within 2 weeks for jock itch and ringworm and within 4 weeks for athlete's foot.

Before you start using Lamisil 1%, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Become pregnant or nursing a child

Inform your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is unknown if Lamisil 1% will harm your unborn baby. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this drug in pregnancy with your doctor. Do not breastfeed when using Terbinafine. It is unknown if this medicine passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Lamisil 1% and other drugs, such as other topical medications, etc.
