Warnings and Interactions

Before starting this medication, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Medrol or prednisolone or if you are having an active fungal infection. Medrol comes as a tablet to be taken by mouth. You should follow the directions on your prescription label carefully and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Methylprednisolone as directed. Do not take more or less of it or more often than your doctor prescribes it. Methylprednisolone suppresses your immunity; hence you are more likely to get infections or may worsen any current conditions. Avoid contact with people with diseases that may spread to others (such as chickenpox, measles, and flu).

If you take large doses for a long time, your doctor probably will decrease your dose gradually to allow your body to adjust before stopping the drug completely. Do not stop taking methylprednisolone without talking to your doctor. Stopping the medication can cause withdrawal with signs such as loss of appetite, upset stomach, vomiting, drowsiness, confusion, headache, fever, joint and muscle pain, peeling skin, and weight loss. If these problems occur, call your doctor immediately.

Before you start using Medrol, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:

• A muscle disorder such as myasthenia gravis;
• Depression, mental illness, or psychosis;
• Diabetes mellitus;
• High blood pressure;
• Liver diseases such as liver cirrhosis;

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is unknown if Medrol is harmful for the unborn baby or if it passes into breast milk; let your doctor know if you are breast-feeding. There may be a drug interaction between Medrol and other drugs, such as mifepristone or any medications that can increase the risk of bleeding such as blood thinners, antiplatelets, and NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
