Norvir Information

Norvir Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the brand Norvir from Canada, which is manufactured by Abbvie. The generic Ritonavir (Ritomune) comes from India by a different manufacturer. Dosage

The brand Norvir and generic Ritonavir are available in the strength of 100 mg tablets only.

Usage

Norvir (Ritonavir) is a prescription used with other antiretroviral medications to help control HIV infection. It helps to decrease the amount of HIV in your body so your immune system can work better. The active ingredient in Norvir is Ritonavir. Ritonavir belongs to a class of drugs known as protease inhibitors. It works by increasing the levels of other protease inhibitors, which helps these medications work better. You should understand that Ritonavir is not a cure for HIV infection. Treating HIV with Norvir reduces the chances of getting complications associated with HIV/AIDs, such as recurrent infections due to a weakened immune system or cancerous transformation, and improves your quality of life.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Norvir are diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, stomach pain, dizziness, tiredness, weakness, changes in taste, or numbness of the mouth.

Stop using Norvir and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Confusion;
• Easy bruising;
• Insomnia;
• Irregular heartbeat;
• Stomach bleeding;
• Symptoms suggestive of liver failure such as yellowness of the skin or eyes and passage of dark colour urine;
• Throat irritation or painful swallowing

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking Ritonavir, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or have any other allergies. Norvir comes as a tablet and should be taken orally with a cup of water, usually twice a day. It is vital to continue taking this medication (and other HIV medications) exactly as prescribed by your doctor. To decrease your risk of spreading HIV disease to others, continue to take all HIV medications exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Use an effective barrier method (condoms) during sexual activity as directed by your doctor. Do not share personal items (such as needles/syringes, toothbrushes, and razors) that may have contaminated blood or other body fluids. Do not miss your drug or clinic appointment. It would be best to continue to take Ritonavir and other prescribed antiretroviral medications even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Ritonavir without talking to your doctor.

Before you start using Norvir, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Diabetes mellitus;
• Hemophilia;
• Heart problems such as coronary artery disease, heart attack;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems, including hepatitis B or C virus infection

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication. Treatment can lower the risk of passing HIV infection to your baby. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Norvir passes into breast milk. Because breast milk may transmit HIV, consult your doctor before breastfeeding. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Norvir is not approved for use in children below 2 years old. There may be a drug interaction between Norvir and other drugs such as voriconazole, alfuzosin, phenytoin, ranolazine, sildenafil, simvastatin, cisapride, lomitapide, tinidazole, and disulfiram.
