The drug is used to restore normal heart rhythm and maintain a regular, steady heartbeat. The active substance in Pacerone is Amiodarone. Amiodarone belongs to a class of medication called class III antiarrhythmic. It works by blocking certain electrical signals in the heart that can cause an irregular heartbeat.

The common side effects of Pacerone are constipation, appetite loss, nausea, and tiredness.

• A serious heart condition called "AV block" (2nd or 3rd degree);
• An electrolyte imbalance;
• Asthma;
• High or low blood pressure;
• Thyroid disorder

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Pacerone can harm the unborn baby. Taking this drug during pregnancy may cause thyroid problems or abnormal heartbeats in the baby after it is born. The drug may also affect the child's growth and development later in life. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Pacerone passes into breast milk and may affect your baby. You should not breastfeed while using this drug and for several months after stopping. The medicine takes a long time to clear from your body. The use and safety of Pacerone in children is not known. There may be a drug interaction between Pacerone and other drugs, such as St. John's wort, quinidine, clarithromycin, itraconazole, rifampin, and cobicistat.
