Usage

Scemblix (Asciminib Hydrochloride) is a prescription medication used to treat certain kinds of Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (PH+ CML) in adults. Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a type of blood cancer. The Philadelphia chromosome occurs when pieces of 2 chromosomes, chromosomes 9 and 22, break off and swap places. The new abnormal chromosome that is created is known as Philadelphia chromosome-positive (PH+). The PH+ affects your bone marrow and changes your white blood cells, causing leukemia. The drug also treats chronic phase PH+ CML in adults with T315l mutation. The active ingredient in Scemblix is Asciminib Hydrochloride. Asciminib Hydrochloride belongs to the class of medication called tyrosine kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the activity of a protein that causes cancer cells to grow and multiply.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Scemblix are nose infections, tiredness, headache, nausea, and rash.

Stop using Scemblix and contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following serious side effects such as:
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as dizziness, fast heartbeat, breathing troubles, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, etc;
• Signs of low blood cell counts such as unexpected bleeding, easy bruising, bloody urine, etc;
• Signs of pancreas problems such as sudden stomach discomfort, nausea, or vomiting

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking Asciminib Hydrochloride, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to any ingredient in the drug or have any other allergies. Scemblix is a tablet, and it should be taken orally (by mouth) as directed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. Take this medication orally on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal) as directed by your doctor. Scemblix may cause fertility problems in females. Use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy when using this drug and for one week after your last dose. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. It is unknown if Asciminib Hydrochloride passes into breast milk. Do not breastfeed during treatment and for at least one week after your last dose. There may be a drug interaction between Asciminib Hydrochloride and other drugs, such as clarithromycin, voriconazole, mifepristone, nefazodone, and digoxin
