Sofracort Eye/Ear Drops Information

Sofracort Eye/Ear Drops Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the brand Sofracort Eye/Ear Drops from Canada manufactured by Sanofi Aventis. The generic version is not available. Our customers may also buy other Anti-Infective/Antibiotic Medications such as Amoxil and Flagyl.

Dosage

Sofracort Eye/Ear Drops is available in the strength of 0.5 mg/5 mg/0.05 mg/8 ml eye/ear drop

Usage

Sofracort Eye/Ear Drops (Dexamethasone/Framycetin Sulfate/Gramicidin) is a combined prescription medication used to treat various eye infections such as infective conjunctivitis, rosacea keratitis, scleritis, episcleritis, and other inflammatory conditions of the anterior segment of the eye. It is also effective against ear infections such as Otitis externa (acute and chronic) and other inflammatory and seborrheic conditions of the external ear. The active substances in Sofracort drops are Dexamethasone, Framycetin Sulfate, and Gramicidin. Framycetin and Gramicidin are antibiotics. It stops bacterial growth in the eye by preventing bacteria from synthesizing essential proteins required to carry out vital functions. Dexamethasone is a steroid that blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the eye red, swollen and itchy.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Sofracort Eye/Ear Drops are decreased vision, dizziness, eye pain, gradual blurring or loss of vision, hearing loss, itching, rash, ringing in the ears, and instability or loss of balance.

Stop using Sofracort Eye/Ear Drops and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Burning, stinging, redness, or watering of the eyes;
• Stinging of the eye or ear;
• Symptoms of an allergic reaction to the active substances in the medication (e.g., difficulty breathing, hives, itchy skin rash, or swelling of the mouth or throat)

Warnings and Interactions

Before you start using Sofracort Eye/Ear Drops, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to framycetin sulfate, Gramicidin, dexamethasone, or any of the ingredients of the medication. It is essential to wash your hands thoroughly. Follow your doctor or pharmacist's instructions on how to use the eye drops. Do not allow the eye dropper to touch any surface. This could contaminate the dropper and lead to an eye infection. Keep the bottle tightly closed when you are not using it.

Suppose you are treating ear infections such as otitis media. Instill the drops by tilting your head to one side and letting the drops fall into the ear canal from above. Do not touch your ear with the dropper. Alternatively, a saturated gauze wick may be inserted by your doctor into your external ear canal.

Suppose you are treating eye infections. The usual dose for acute conditions is 1 or 2 drops every 1 or 2 hours. However, if your doctor has recommended a dose different from the one given here, do not change the way you use the medication without consulting your doctor. You should continue to use this medication until you complete your dosage, even if you feel better.

Before you start using Sofracort Eye/Ear Drops, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Diagnosed with trachoma;
• Perforation of the eardrum;
• Treating Herpes simplex or other viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva;
• Tuberculosis or fungal diseases of the eye;
• Untreated ears or eyes infections with thick secretions;
• Viral or fungal infections of the ear

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. This medication should not be used for a lengthy period during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. If you become pregnant while using this medication, contact your doctor immediately. Breast-feeding: It is unknown if the active substances pass into breast milk. If you are breastfeeding and using this eye/ear drop, it may affect your baby. Talk to your doctor about whether you should continue breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Sofracort Eye/Ear Drops and other drugs such as diclofenac eye drops and ketorolac eye drops.
