Product Details

Visanne is a progestogenic drug which produces effects similar to the natural hormone progesterone. It is used to reduce pelvic pain in women suffering from endometriosis. Endometriosis can cause chronic inflammation outside the uterus.

Side Effects and Precautions

Stop using the medication and get medical care if you have an allergic reaction. Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

The common side effects of Visanne includes: acne, breast discomfort, constipation, decreased sexual interest/activity, diarrhea, difficulty sleeping, dry eyes, skin or nails, fluid retention, gas, hair loss, headache, hot flashes, irritability, nausea, vomiting, and weight gain. The serious side effects may include:

• Abdominal pain or discomfort
• Anxiety
• Back or bone pain
• Breast lump
• Breast pain or enlargement
• Changes in vaginal bleeding
• Depression
• Liver problems
• Mood swings
• Muscle spasms
• Rapid or pounding heartbeat
• Ringing in the ears
• Signs of blood clot
• Urinary tract infection
• Vaginal yeast infection

You should not take Visanne if you are allergic to Dienogest, or other progestins, or if you have a history of migraines with aura, eye lesions, circulation problems, liver tumors, history of blood clots, or undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding. This medication can increase your risk of fatal heart attack or stroke, especially when used for long term, in high doses, or if you have heart disease. Before you start taking Visanne, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you currently take including OTC and herbal medications. You should avoid taking Visanne while pregnant or nursing. There may be an interaction between Visanne and other medications, including: antibiotics, antifungals, hormonal birth control, diabetes medications, SSRIs, HIV medications, and more. Talk to your doctor about the risks.
