Usage

Zytiga (Abiraterone) is a prescription medication used in men whose prostate cancer cannot be treated with surgery or other medicines. Prostate cancer forms in the prostate gland – a part of the reproductive system in men and people assigned male at birth. This drug is used with steroid medication to treat prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. The active ingredient in Zytiga is Abiraterone. Abiraterone belongs to a class of drugs called anti-androgens. It works by blocking the production of testosterone, slowing the growth and spread of prostate cancer.

The common side effects of Zytiga are headache, nausea, stuffy nose, painful urination, and feeling very hot.

While you are taking Zytiga, use a condom to prevent the transfer of this medication to your sexual partner if she is pregnant. Use a condom plus another form of effective birth control if your sexual partner could become pregnant. Keep using birth control for at least 3 weeks after your last dose. It is unknown if this medicine passes into breast milk. This medicine is not for use in breastfeeding women. There may be a drug interaction between Zytiga and other drugs, such as ketoconazole, rifampin, erythromycin, St. John's wort, phenytoin, amiodarone, etc.
