Usage

Safe Plus (Carbonyl Iron for Children) is an over-the-counter medication used to treat and prevent low blood iron levels in children. Anaemia is a condition in which the blood level is low and may affect the child's growth. If a child is not getting enough iron, they may feel weak and find it challenging to keep up with daily activities. The active ingredient in Safe Plus is Carbonyl Iron. Carbonyl Iron belongs to the class of medication called iron supplements. Highly pure carbonyl liquid iron helps your kids thrive and grow as expected by replacing the depleted iron levels in the blood.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Safe Plus are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, staining of the mouth or teeth, and stomach pain.

Stop using Safe Plus and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, peeling of the skin with or without fever, sudden hoarseness of voice, or swelling of the lips;
• Bloody or black tarry stool;
• Severe stomach pain;
• Vomiting blood or coffee grounds substance

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Safe Plus for your child, inform your doctor if your child uses multivitamins containing ferrous sulfate or iron supplements. Safe Plus comes as an ampoule of oral liquid and should be taken according to the leaflet that comes with it. Read the leaflet carefully and speak with your doctor or pharmacist if there is anything you do not understand about Safe Plus. Safe Plus medication is ideal for infants, kids, and teenagers with low iron levels. An ampoule should be taken once daily. It would be best if your child takes it on an empty stomach. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Taking it regularly helps increase your child's hemoglobin levels (blood level). This ensures that your child gets enough oxygen for peak performance every day. It is recommended to wait for a few hours after taking Safe Plus before taking other medication. Visit your doctor if you realize no improvement in your child's condition.

Before you start using Safe Plus, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Blood disorders such as clotting disorder, sickle cell disease, or G6PD;
• Intestinal disorders such as intussusception, intestinal obstruction, or imperforate anus;
• Iron overload syndrome;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems;
• Pathological jaundice

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. If you are using Safe Plus during pregnancy, inform your doctor if you are pregnant. Your doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of using iron supplements in pregnancy. Inform your doctor if your teenager is pregnant or breastfeeding a child before using Safe Plus medication. There may be a drug interaction between Safe Plus and other drugs, such as aluminum-based antacids, carbimazole, dapsone, methimazole, and penicillin G.
